More than 90 people attended the 2-day seminar organized in Avignon at the end of November by the Association of Producers Peaches and Apricots of France. It was an opportunity to look back on a difficult season, “but also to look ahead to 2024, a year which holds many surprises.”

“The prospect of economic activity influenced by 16 million visitors”
Despite a difficult 2023 season, especially for the apricot campaign, due to weather disruptions and a fragile economic context, the mood was festive at the annual seminar of the Association of Producers Peaches and Apricots of France. The participants were looking to the future, with the prospect of economic activity influenced by the 16 million extra visitors expected in France next summer.

Discussions on market trends
The highlight of this annual event were the discussions and exchanges on the current changes on the market, from retail difficulties to the growth of fresh produce specialists and the concentration of supermarkets. “We began by noting the gradual disappearance of supermarket chains, and asked ourselves what consequences this trend could have on the marketing of our fruit. In the next few years, the marketing of our products will become a bottleneck, and this situation will affect all agricultural sectors,” explains Raphaël Martinez. For the event, Philippe Goetzmann, guest speaker specialized in the subject, offered his vision on these developments.

The Association supports paracycling
Finally, participants welcomed Alexandre Lloveras, tandem track and road paracycling champion. “His testimony, combining determination, strength and modesty, blew the audience away. Peaches and Apricots of France supports paracycling, and three champions in particular: Alexandre and Paul Lloveras, as well as Anne-Sophie Centis, all 3 in their intense preparation phase for the upcoming qualifiers. A magnificent story of courage and solidarity, which are essential values for the association.”
