China: Imported banana shipments are slow and banana prices generally rise

Recently, the domestic banana production area market in China has been showing an upward trend as a whole, and there is a big bull market for bananas. Shipments in various production areas are active, and prices have generally risen, and compared with last weekend, prices have risen by a large margin. The Guangxi production area has a large overall shipment volume, stable quality, and a leading price. It is now a well-known main production area for sales. As a result of the overall improvement, the market in Guangdong producing areas has heated up the most this week. In the first two months, ordinary-quality bananas that were difficult to sell at 0.4 RMB/kg can now be sold at more than 1.5 RMB/kg, and the goods are in short supply.

The banana prices in the Guangxi-producing areas rose steadily at the early stage, and merchants were actively ordering; later, the total volume gradually decreased, and the demand was still there. The price increase was more obvious, but the shipment volume declined. At present, high-quality bananas in the production area can reach about 4 RMB/kg, good ones are generally about 3.2 RMB/kg, and medium-quality goods are about 2.5 RMB /kg. The price of various grades of bananas is based on quality, and the overall price is leading.

There are two main reasons for the overall upward trend of the banana market: First, the borders of Laos and Myanmar are closed, and bananas cannot be imported; the temperature is not high, the production areas are small, and the total amount of domestic production is also small. The overall demand for the banana market is beginning to unbalance which means that orders have increased overall; secondly, seasonal fruits have gradually decreased, and the demand for bananas in the northern market has increased, and many wholesalers have rushed to place orders in time, hoping to stock up before the cold wave and the big temperature drop, so the prices have generally risen.
