Higher-grade products in demand

Chinese banana market stable with modest increases

Last week (November 8-14), banana prices in the production areas rose steadily. Although the increase was modest, the overall market trend was optimistic. At present, supply from Guangxi has decreased, and shipment from Yunnan has increased but at a limited speed, so high-quality products are in short supply. As a result, higher-grade products are fetching much higher prices than the rest.

Among the production areas, the market in Guangxi is relatively stable this week. Shipments and orders differ among plantations there with those offering supply with a stable quality active in shipping. Good-grades are in demand and prices have also risen. At the beginning of last week, premium-grade products from Nanning were marketed at 3.4 yuan/kg. By the end of the week, it rose to 3.6 yuan/kg. The price of high-grade products in Longzhou, Tiandong, Chongzuo and other areas also increased in different degrees within 0.2 yuan/kg. Prices of medium-grade products, lower-grade supply, and disease-resistant saplings remained stable, and the overall pricing differences widened.

Recently, the temperature has dropped, and a small number of older seedlings in the plantations have been slightly affected.
