Wholesale prices for early apple varieties in Moldova have almost halved over the past six weeks, falling from 20 to 9 MDL/kg (€1.0-0.46/kg), according to Logos Press.
A similar trend is observed in Ukraine and Poland, though the decline there is less pronounced, at 15–20%. Current EastFruit data show Moldova has the lowest wholesale prices among monitored European markets: €0.59/kg in Moldova, compared to €0.94/kg in Poland and €1.09/kg in Ukraine. Analysts note that prices keep falling due to high supply from both the new and last year's harvest, combined with weak demand as consumers turn to seasonal alternatives such as stone fruit, berries, and early grapes.
Despite the decline, August 2025 prices in Moldova and Ukraine remain roughly double last year's level. In Moldova, most early apples are sold domestically on the fresh market, with almost no exports. Deliveries to processing plants are limited, with industrial apples priced at 2.5–3.0 MDL/kg (€0.13-0.15/kg), higher than last summer but still well below fresh market levels. In Poland, industrial apple prices have fallen by nearly one-third since the start of the season, down to €0.16–0.18/kg, reflecting stagnant sales of apple concentrate in the EU.
If prices in Eastern Europe climb again this season, it would mark the first time wholesale apple prices increase for more than two consecutive years, potentially setting new record highs for consumers.
