Egypt exported around 56,000 tons of fresh produce last week, according to a report by the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) released by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA). The consignments were part of a total of 210,000 tons of food and agricultural products shipped during the same period.
Vegetable exports reached 30,000 tons, led by sweet potatoes at 11,000 tons, followed by mixed vegetables with 5,000 tons and onions with 4,000 tons. In total, 45 different vegetable varieties were shipped.
Fruit exports amounted to 26,000 tons. Strawberries led with 8,000 tons, followed by mangoes with 7,000 tons and pomegranates with 4,000 tons. In total, 30 fruit varieties were exported.
Egyptian produce reached 180 international markets, with Italy, India, the United States, and the United Kingdom among the main destinations.
