Bonsai Robotics Inc., a developer of vision-based autonomy software for agriculture, has announced its acquisition of farm-ng Inc., a company known for its modular electric robots for farm management. The merger aims to combine complementary technologies to address challenges in labor, cost, and operational efficiency across the agricultural sector.
The integration of Bonsai's AI-driven autonomy platform with farm-ng's customizable robotic hardware is expected to support the development of more adaptive, efficient, and accessible robotic systems. These systems can be used across different crops, environments, and equipment types, enabling mixed-fleet automation and offering flexibility to growers.

Bonsai Robotics CEO and co-founder Tyler Niday stated that the acquisition marks a strategic step toward developing next-generation autonomous farm machinery. The company intends to expand its efforts to deliver AI-integrated equipment, either through retrofitting existing machinery or introducing new robotic platforms, to improve agricultural productivity.
The two companies have previously collaborated on deployments in vineyards, orchards, and bedded crops, and the acquisition builds on this foundation. Farm-ng's former CEO, Brendan Dowdle, now serving as Chief Business Officer at Bonsai Robotics, emphasized the shared goal of creating practical AI and robotic tools tailored for real-world agricultural operations.
The expanded team brings a combination of experience in agriculture, robotics, AI, and engineering. Notable new additions to Bonsai Robotics include John Teeple, former director of technology at John Deere, as Chief Operating Officer, and Gary Bradski, a leader in computer vision and founder of OpenCV, who joins as Chief Science Officer.
Bonsai's Chief Technology Officer, Ugur Oezdemir, commented that the acquisition will support the development of a unified platform capable of integrating hardware and perception systems to adapt to the variability in farming conditions. This includes different crop types, geographic regions, and equipment configurations.
While financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, existing shareholders of both Bonsai Robotics and farm-ng will maintain stakes in the newly combined entity, which will operate under the Bonsai Robotics name.
