Düsseldorf-based supplier finds a new home at the Duisburg wholesale market

"We see further growth potential in the Duisburg area"

With the closure of the local wholesale market in Düsseldorf on December 31, 2024, Konrad Koester GmbH also officially ceased operations. During their search for a new, future-proof location, Koester and his long-time employee Sadri Limani found what they were looking for at the Duisburg wholesale market, just 30 km from the old company headquarters. Under the new name S. Limani GmbH, but with the same service and customer base, the business will now continue operating from there with renewed vigor.

A look inside the cold storage facility at S. Limani GmbH. Last summer, the wholesale market management first informed the management of Konrad Koester GmbH about the space that was becoming available.

Between 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., it's all go at the S. Limani GmbH site. "We are still mainly focused on supplying caterers and communal catering services within a 100 km radius, and most of our customers are supplied at night," says Limani, who has already worked for over 30 years at the predecessor company Konrad Koester GmbH. "Both our customers and our employees have remained largely loyal to us. In addition, we have already acquired several new customers in the Duisburg area and see further growth potential in this region."

Convenience on the rise
In addition to seasonal fruit and vegetables, the company's product range also includes fresh-cut products such as colorful salad mixes, peeled potatoes, and the like. Limani: "We were one of the first to offer cut produce many years ago, and the variety of convenience products has expanded considerably over the years. We have also noticed that demand for a wide variety of convenience products has risen sharply since the coronavirus pandemic, mainly due to staff shortages in kitchens."

Healthy cooperation characterizes local wholesale market
Both the management and the employees are now well settled in Duisburg. "We have been very well received by our colleagues at the wholesale market, and we also help each other. This spirit of cooperation is by no means a given in today's highly competitive fruit and vegetable sector. Everything else is also very well organized, which is clearly thanks to the efforts of the market operator, Duisburg Kontor GmbH. In this respect, we can only conclude that moving to Duisburg was the right step for us," he adds.

In addition to the existing wholesale market box, the company has a bus in which additional office space has been created.
