"We have recorded a growth in out-of-home consumption over the past two months compared to the same period last year, while demand for tomato pulp and puree in the retail segment remains more stable and balanced," reports Gaetano Torrente, head of La Torrente Srl and President of the Food Chain Section of the Naples Industrial Union for 2025-2027 for the third mandate.

The manager highlighted the need to do more to promote and strengthen the positioning of tomatoes as a "unique product", drawing inspiration from other Italian products such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Balsamic Vinegar, which help identify and promote the best of Italian-made products. His leadership is particularly appreciated for his commitment to the promotion of the Campania agri-food chain and his support for innovation in the processing tomato sector.

Torrente is recognised as a landmark company and one of the largest canning industries in Southern Italy. The brand identifies a wide range of fully-Italian processed tomatoes obtained by fusing both organic and traditional techniques. The company offers around 80 tomato products in various formats, including whole, peeled, puréed, and filleted tomatoes, ready-made sauces in traditional Mediterranean flavours, and a premium line dedicated to high-end specialities. These products are obtained by processing over 10 tomato varieties, including red long and round, yellow cherry tomatoes, San Marzano tomatoes from the Sarnese-Nocerino area, Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio, Corbarino, and hill tomatoes.

"Although more careful with their spending, consumers continue to look for products that offer authenticity, a superior taste, and traceability of the entire production chain. The canned tomato market is going through a phase of profound transformation, determined by new needs and an economic context that requires a more rigorous selection when making purchases. Some key trends are strongly emerging in this scenario, that are redefining the identity and positioning of the category, including a decisive push towards innovation and the development of high-quality products."
Filippo Torrente, owner and one of the founders of the Campania-based company, announced that the 2025 processing campaign will kick off next week. Among the most important novelties is the inauguration of the new 36,000 square metre plant, 16,000 square metres of which are covered and organised in spaces designed to maximise efficiency and quality. The production area occupies an impressive 7,000 square metres, while the warehouses, logistics, and management buildings complete a facility designed to best support the entire tomato processing campaign.

"The objective is to increase the production capacity within 3-4 years, with volumes that will exceed one hundred thousand tonnes of freshly-processed tomatoes. This represents a very important step for the company, which intends to proceed gradually, especially in terms of technological innovation, as the plants are of the latest generation."
For next year, La Torrente will have no stock problems, as it aims to produce 20% more than last year.

From an environmental point of view, the new plant incorporates state-of-the-art systems to reduce its ecological impact. The plant uses advanced technologies to minimise its environmental impact, such as water recovery systems, fuel-efficient engines, low-emission boilers with heat recovery, and a photovoltaic system to produce renewable energy. These solutions save resources and reduce emissions and energy consumption, thereby combining production efficiency with environmental sustainability.
85% of the turnover comes from the Italian market. As for exports, the brand is present in Spain, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Sweden, the United States, Canada, Japan, and India. The company boasts the most internationally renowned certifications.
