Westrozebeke evacuated, Sint-Juliaan race cancelled

Major fire at frozen vegetable company Horafrost in Staden

During the night from Friday to Saturday, a major fire broke out at the Horafrost frozen vegetable company in Staden, Belgium, reports KW's Bert Feys. Due to the heavy smoke, all residents of Westrozebeke were evacuated, including those in the nearby residential care centre. The fire brigade expects to be busy extinguishing the fire for several hours. The provincial disaster plan has been activated, and emergency services are urging people to avoid the area.

Because of the smoke, the race in Sint-Juliaan was cancelled. Residents in surrounding areas are being advised to keep windows and doors closed due to health risks associated with the smoke.
