"Our product helps Turkish growers sell beyond the season by extending shelf life naturally"

With the fig, pomegranate, and avocado seasons around the corner, Turkish agri-tech company FreshSens is encouraging producers to treat shelf-life not just as a preservation tool, but as a strategic asset, says Sertan Yargovan, sales director at FreshSens: "When you can store avocados for 50+ days, without chemicals, it changes everything. It's no longer just about quality. It's about timing, pricing, and market access."

"FreshSens offers controlled-atmosphere modules equipped with smart sensors that monitor respiration rate, temperature, and humidity in real-time. Combined with our AI-powered platform, this technology enables producers to make better-informed decisions on when and how to store, and when to sell."

Yargovan emphasizes that this approach has already delivered strong results across several crops: "Avocados have been stored for up to 52 days without any chemical intervention, preserving texture, taste, visual quality, and marketability. This allowed growers to reach higher-value markets beyond the typical season. Figs, typically considered delicate, maintained full marketability for up to 28 days in recent trials. Pomegranates have shown promising results, with storage durations extended to 180 days, with minimal weight loss, better texture, and no internal browning. And pitahaya, or dragon fruit, trials have confirmed nearly 30 days of safe storage, opening possibilities for more flexible logistics and export timelines."

According to Yargovan, Turkish growers and exporters are looking for more stability after uncertain times, and he feels FreshSens will support them with just that. "Growers have faced a lot of unpredictability recently, from climate-driven crop losses to unstable pricing. What we offer is not just storage. It's planning. It's a way to align postharvest handling with supply and demand projections. Our FreshSens systems are already being used by major Turkish exporters, cold storage operators, and packing houses. With this year's harvest season looking volatile after frost events in key growing regions, the ability to delay sales without sacrificing quality could give Turkish growers a powerful edge."

"We believe freshness isn't a luxury, it's a necessity. And with the right tools, it can be a competitive advantage," Yargovan concludes.
