Early cherry season boosts UK farm sales

Unusual spring warmth has advanced the UK cherry season, prompting early harvest beginnings at various farms. Lower Clopton Farm, located near Stratford-upon-Avon, has commenced its pick-your-own cherry initiative much earlier than in previous years.

Richard Baldwyn, owner of Lower Clopton Farm Shop, remarked, "We've never seen cherries ripen this early, and it's certainly our biggest ever crop here on the farm." According to Baldwyn, favorable weather conditions, including a mild winter and early sunshine, accelerated growth and enhanced sweetness.

The early harvest season has increased visitor numbers at the Warwickshire farm, where Friday and Saturday cherry picking continues until depletion. The event, increasingly popular, attracts outdoor enthusiasts during warm weather. Many visitors highlight their experiences on social media, with the cherry orchards becoming an Instagram favorite.

Simultaneously, elevated temperatures have boosted sales of barbecue products at the farm's shop, heavily influencing local consumer habits. Lower Clopton has noted a 20% increase in year-over-year revenue driven by demand for grill items like burgers, sausages, and kebabs as temperatures rise.

Baldwyn added, "We're seeing more people choosing to shop locally for BBQ supplies – the weather has definitely played a part. A lack of rain brings many challenges for farmers, but at least there are some benefits."
