The Terp Squashpackers is expanding its production and trade of organic bulk pumpkins." "The first tender for producing and supplying 600 tonnes of Amoro will be issued in March. Participation in Fruit Logistica in Berlin confirmed that more and more organic growers in the EU are switching to kilo cherries. This development has once again set off alarm bells and led to a significant shift in strategy," the De Terp team points out.

De Terp Squash Only will actively inform EU buyers about the quality differences between varieties from the upcoming growing season. "There will be targeted communication on variety, origin, and quality indicators, which will be linked to appropriate price differences. While we have always emphasized taste and quality, we are now launching a final offensive to raise quality awareness within trade and retail. This is essential before high-quality varieties become further overshadowed by the increasing volumes of kilo varieties."

Over the past two years, extensive research has been conducted into the differences in taste and quality between various varieties. "This was done through taste panels with at least 50 participants, and the results were undeniably significant. Since organic pumpkins have a permanent place in retail year-round, breeders worldwide have been developing varieties with optimal taste and quality for the past 10 to 15 years."
Recent research also indicates that there is still enormous sales potential in north-western Europe, they say. "Many consumers are still unfamiliar with the consumption of winter squash. These new customers must have a positive taste experience. In fact, consumer research within AGF retail shows that, on average, a customer waits three months before making a repeat purchase after a disappointing first experience."
