Wholesale fruit and vegetable prices:

Late season apple prices surge 72% as cauliflower drops 22%

Recent price changes in the fresh produce market have shown notable fluctuations, particularly in apples and vegetables. Egremont Russet apples saw a decline in their average price per kilogram, dropping from £1.36 in the previous week to £1.20. This 12% decrease indicates a potential shift in market conditions, possibly driven by an increase in supply or reduced consumer demand.

In contrast, Other Late Season apples experienced a significant price surge, rising from £1.21 to £2.08 per kilogram, marking a 72% increase. Such a sharp rise suggests a tightening supply or a seasonal factor influencing availability.

Among vegetables, Savoy cabbage recorded a modest increase in its average price, moving from £0.66 to £0.71 per kilogram. This 8% rise suggests a minor supply constraint or increased consumer demand.

In contrast, cauliflower saw a decline in its price, falling from £1.09 to £0.85 per kilogram. This 22% drop could be attributed to an increase in supply or a seasonal shift that has brought more produce to the market, thereby reducing prices.
