The members of the cooperatives Grup Cooperatiu Fruits de Ponent and Actel Grup have unanimously approved the creation of a shared company, with an equitable participation of 50% by both entities. The agreement is the culmination of a year of joint efforts which will result in the creation of Novacoop Mediterranea, the name of this new agri-food company that is bringing together the cooperative spirit and the character of the Mediterranean agricultural production.
Novacoop Mediterranea is starting its journey with the formation, in the coming weeks, of its board of directors with members from the two founding cooperatives. Then it will be time to address other key aspects for the company's functioning.
What is Novacoop Mediterranea?
Actel and Fruits de Ponent have spent more than a year planning the creation of this joint company with the legal structure of a Limited Company (SL), which will be responsible for managing daily operations related to fruit, oil, nuts, member services and energy. This strategic decision has been made after deep joint reflection, taking into account the current situation in the sector, with a high concentration of actors in the agri-food chain, and the decisive changes in agricultural production caused by the climate emergency. Within the framework of sustainable development, this collaboration seeks to optimize the profitability of both partners through a more efficient processing and marketing of agricultural products. It also aims to collectively address the high current investment needs.
Strategic alliance for comprehensive service and new business opportunities
Novacoop Mediterranea will seek the optimization of existing activities and to provide a comprehensive service. It will also look for new business opportunities, with special attention to areas such as energy, or support in fieldwork to producer partners. Given the cooperative principles shared between Fruits de Ponent and Actel, this business initiative is deeply rooted in the territory and in service to society. It is also worth recalling that this is not a merger, as the two cooperatives, Fruits de Ponent and Actel, will remain autonomous.
