Quarantine pests detected in imported strawberry batches from Kazakhstan in Orenburg region of Russia

Since February 2024, Rosselkhoznadzor officials in Orenburg have conducted quarantine phytosanitary checks at Russian border checkpoints, warehouses, control posts, and delivery sites for 1,151,000 tons of imported sub-quarantine products from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and China.

The volume of imported sub-quarantine products increased by 22% and amounted to fruits (207.89 tons), vegetables (878.59 tons), dried fruits, and others (64.8 tons).

In compliance with quarantine phytosanitary laws, 99.9 tons of sub-quarantine products were banned from import due to the discovery of pests, invalid certificates, and lack of labelling.

On February 4th officials of the Rosselkhoznadzor Administration, during quarantine phytosanitary control, detected the quarantine pest Western Flower Thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis Perg.) in two batches of fresh strawberries (originating from Kazakhstan, with a total weight of 1.9 tons).

Following quarantine legislation, the import of sub-quarantine products into the territory of the Russian Federation was prohibited, and the individuals responsible were held accountable. All sub-quarantine products were returned to the country of origin.
