"There are still only a few hectares planted, but things are looking so encouraging that we will definitely invest more," reports Antonio Zani, sales manager at Granfrutta Zani when talking about Fred club pears.
"Yields were good this year, thanks to the anti-hail systems that also provide protection against late frost, in addition to the frost protection systems installed. Having the first quantities available means we can carry out tests with clients to assess the appreciation of consumers. Feedback has been positive so far."
Fred is a bi-color pear variety with medium grades. The texture is firm, crunchy and juicy and fruits are sweet yet slightly acidic with high organoleptic qualities. Fred is tolerant to brown spot, just like the Williams variety."

"Unfortunately traditional pears are being greatly affected by the return of some diseases. Anti-hail and frost protection nets are recommended to obtain high quality productions."
That is why various varietal renewal projects are currently underway and Fred is among the new varieties introduced over the past few years.
