Filipino producer looks to European market

Hi-Las Marketing Corp., a player in the agribusiness, has unveiled its strategic initiative to bolster market penetration by charting a course towards exporting fresh fruits to key European markets, notably Belgium. While historically centered on the Asian market, the company is now strategically diversifying its portfolio to include other lucrative regions.

Ram Amores, the Chief Operating Officer, revealed ongoing negotiations for a trial shipment of calamansi to Belgium, emphasizing the company's proactive engagement with Belgian importers. This strategic move is backed by collaborative efforts with the Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Plant Industry and its quarantine division, aligning with Hi-Las Marketing's commitment to adhering to international standards reports manilastandard.net

Amores articulated the significance of securing a trade contract promptly, highlighting the ambitious endeavor of entering a new market, specifically Belgium, while maintaining a keen eye on the competitive pricing dynamics of calamansi.

Building on its success in addressing the heightened global demand for calamansi during the pandemic, Hi-Las Marketing has successfully exported semi-processed, pure, and frozen calamansi extracts to China, showcasing adaptability and resilience amid evolving market conditions.

In tandem with its international expansion, Hi-Las Marketing continues to cater to the domestic market's requirements for calamansi extract. The company recently achieved market entry into the fresh fruit segments of Perth and Sydney in Australia, shipping an initial 1.5 metric tons of fresh mangoes. Amores outlined plans for subsequent shipments to Australia, strategically focusing on enhancing competitiveness during the forthcoming mango season.

The company, marking a noteworthy milestone, executed its inaugural shipment of fresh okra to South Korea, diversifying its market footprint beyond the longstanding presence in Japan, a market it has been serving for over 15 years. Amores underscored the critical importance of upholding rigorous standards, particularly in markets like Japan and South Korea that prioritize chemical food safety.
