Week 29 Wholesale Fruit Market Report

Peruvian blueberries on the market, American stone fruit is arriving

The first Peruvian blueberries of the year hit the market this week. In addition, various plums imported from the United States have arrived one after another, and more citrus, of different brands, from South Africa and Australia have arrived in the market.

So far, two brands of Peruvian blueberries have been newly launched. The arrival varieties of one of these two brands are POP and Beauty, and the specifications include 16mm+, 18mm+, and 20mm+. The 16mm+ POP variety accounts for a large proportion, and the price is about ¥140/piece. According to the merchant, due to the impact of the pandemic this year, blueberries arrived earlier than last year, and the current price and taste are roughly the same as before.

The American plums currently on sale include Black Diamond, Emerald, and Midnight Rose. Among them, Black Diamond plums have been on the market for about two weeks, and other varieties are in the early stages. Some merchants said that because of the good taste and the small volume of Midnight Rose plums, the products were sold smoothly even though the price was relatively high. Emerald plums are still a bit sour. Some merchants mentioned that the price and taste of imported plums are now close to those in the past, but the recent sales are not satisfactory. The main reason is that the current domestic plums have good taste and price advantage, which has an impact on imported plums.

The price of durian rose this week. The price of A6 Thai Monthong was about ¥680-¥780/piece, and it was close to ¥800/piece at the peak. The price of Vietnamese Monthong was similar, both up about 15% from last week. Merchants said that the summer vacation is approaching, and there is demand in the market, but the recent arrival is less, so the price is raised. It is reported that because the quality of durians is not as good as in the first half of the year, there are more cases of dead fruits, and buyers are more cautious in purchasing.

The current price of imported avocados is about ¥60-¥70/piece. There has been little change recently, but the price in the same period last year was about ¥90-¥100/piece. It is reported that the price of avocado rose around April this year, because some big brand tea shops launched avocado drinks at that time, which greatly increased the demand for avocado. The high price has increased the number of merchants participating in the sales, and the sales from the production areas have also increased accordingly. However, the quality of the products that arrived after a period of time is not satisfactory, and the volume has increased greatly, and the price has dropped immediately. The market is still sluggish so far in May.

More brands of citrus from South Africa and Australia have arrived. At present, the overall market for the same source of citrus has not changed much.

All kinds of domestic fruits and boutique packaging

In terms of major domestic fruits, the production of Xinjiang apricots was reduced due to the frost in May, and the volume on the market was small. The market of Shaanxi Dali winter jujube is generally stable, and the price and sales vary with different brands. The domestic plums on sale include Candy Red plums, Cherry plums, and Banbianhong plums, most of which come from Yunnan and Sichuan. There are merchants that mainly sell domestic high-quality fruits. Because they pay attention to branding and gift box packaging, several products are selling well.
