California Walnut Commission:

‘Californian walnuts score big in UK promotion’

A summer promotion of Californian almonds is quite successful in the United Kingdom. Also, in partnership with the leading UK distributor Whitworth, walnuts from California are featured in a free-standing display for 12 weeks in 780 Tesco stores. The California Walnut Commission reported that 200-gram packs of walnuts situated on the top two shelves in stores have sold very well.

The promotion has so far 17 tons of incremental sales and could exceed 50 tons by the promotion’s end, according to commission officials. A metric ton is a little more than 1.1 tons. Tesco is one of the largest retailers in the UK and also has shops in Ireland, the Czech Republic and elsewhere in Europe. The retailer had 4,673 stores total as of 2021, according to the company.
