5th carrot season kicks off the carrot harvest

A total of 780,000 tonnes of German carrots were harvested last year

The carrot is finally in season again in Germany. And this was celebrated on 1 July 2023 with a big season opening at the Abenhardt farm in Datteln. The carrot is the most harvested vegetable in Germany and is the second most frequently bought vegetable by consumers after tomatoes. Last year alone, 780,000 tonnes were harvested from the fields here in the country. Good reasons for the orange vegetable to get its own season opening.

The start of the carrot season was celebrated for the fifth time. This year, the Abenhardt company from Datteln invited the guests. During a tour of the fields, Carsten Abendhardt explained to the visitors how the carrots are pulled out of the ground and harvested with the clamp harvester. Close to the action, the audience gained a direct insight into this exciting process. This year there were some delays in sowing due to the abundant rain in spring, but now the harvest is in full swing. Visitors were able to learn about carrot cultivation during the event and ask questions directly to the experts.
