Large 2,600m2 PV system in organic raspberry cultivation in use

A dynamic AgriPhotovoltaic solution insolagrin has been deployed at bioschmid GmbH in the canton of Lucerne. A joint installation with Monika and Heinz Schmid, who practice organic farming. The installation is part of a pilot project in which three different systems of Agri Photovoltaic installations are tested in comparison with a control area. After the construction phase in 2023, the Swiss Federal Research Station Agroscope Conthey (agronomic part) and the Bern University of Applied Sciences (PV part) will conduct research and accompany the project for three years. The pilot plant, which was launched by bioschmid gmbh, is supported by the Pilot and Demonstration Program of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, the Canton of Lucerne (Swisslos), the Fondation sur la Croix and other foundations, as well as the participating system suppliers.

This novel system is a major step towards energy transition in Switzerland, as it is has shown that there are immediately scalable, innovative solutions that protect plants in producing agriculture and can produce green energy in the same area. It thus comes at the right time following the positive vote on the Climate and Innovation Act, which was voted on by Swiss citizens on June 18, 2023.

The plant is built over an area of 2,600m2 of raspberries and is expected to produce around 190 MWh of electricity per year in addition to the raspberry yield.

insolagrin - the agronomic tool to protect crops and generate solar energy at the same time - helps farmers transition to more sustainable and resilient agricultural production. It offers a replacement for plastic tunnels and a choice for consumers to opt for energy-positive fruits.
