3rd edition of the French National Agriculture Days

“These days aim to show what it means to be a farmer”

The 3rd edition of the French National Agriculture Days took place on the 16th, 17th and 18th of June. Three days dedicated to helping the general public discover or rediscover the agricultural and agri-food professions.

Organized by AgriDemain, the event was officially launched on the 15th of June at the Ile-de-France area of the Rungis International Market, in the presence of the market director, Stéphane Layani, and the French Minister of Agriculture, Marc Fesneau.

“These days serve to fight against 3 things agriculture suffers from: ignorance, intolerance and incoherence. [...] The aim of these days is to show what it is like to be a farmer,” explained Marc Fesneau at the press conference in Rungis.

More than 1,300 events were organized throughout France to encourage French consumers to meet the people who feed them (the 2022 edition attracted more than 140,000 visitors nationwide, with more than 1,200 events). Stéphane Layani asserted at the press conference that it was necessary to showcase the agricultural professions at a time when “city dwellers are increasingly distanced from producers.”

“The purpose of the French National Agriculture Days is to highlight France's agricultural and food sovereignty, as the European Union's leading producer in this sector, accounting for almost 18% of the European agricultural output. These days are also an opportunity to fulfill the French public's desire to meet the farmers who work to promote agriculture, whose role is increasingly seen as essential to preserve the land and the environment. Professionals from the entire agricultural and para-agricultural sector are also able to promote their profession and the quality of their produce to consumers, as well as raise awareness about the challenges and issues facing the agricultural world today, such as the development of short distribution channels and the preservation of biodiversity.”
