May is the off-season for the fruit market, and the types of fruit arrivals are relatively limited with small volumes. Among them, there are more imported apples and citrus fruits. Durian is undoubtedly the most high-profile in the market, while Thai mangosteen is sold out quickly due to the small number of arrivals.
Durian is currently dominated by Thailand's Monthong and Vietnam's Kanyao. The arrival of Monthong from Thailand continued to decrease, and the price rose from ￥880-￥900 last week to ￥1100/box this week, and many buyers continued to purchase. A large number of Vietnamese Kanyao durians are on the market, and the price has increased slightly compared with last week, about ￥350-￥380/box (7.5kg). After the launch of Vietnam's Kanyao, it could overtake Thailand's Monthong, the volume is large, and although the taste is not as good as the Monthong variety, it is attracting buyers. Some merchants said that because the ever-popular Monthong is in short supply, there are currently more buyers purchasing Monthong.

Recently, the incoming shipments of mangosteen from Thailand have decreased significantly, which has led to a considerable increase in prices. According to the merchants, the price of mangosteens from high-quality sources in the same period last year was about ￥270-￥280/box, but at present, the price of the same supply is about ￥470-￥480/box, an increase of more than 70%. The price has continued to rise, and the same source has increased the price by more than ￥100/box this month compared with last month. Due to the short supply, the sales are still fast despite the high prices.

The price of imported apples has dropped by about 10%-15% compared with last week, and sales have slowed down. It is understood that last Sunday's Mother's Day helped apple sales, and both prices and sales slowed down after the holiday. In addition, according to merchants, there are more small fruits arriving this season, and most of them are used for special sales in supermarkets. Without festival promotions, there will be fewer special offers in supermarkets, and small fruits are not suitable for business uses or gifts, reducing the overall purchase demand, which is also one of the reasons for the slowdown in sales.

South African grapefruit sales this month are better than before. Grapefruit has been adjusted from ￥230-￥240 when it was first launched last month to the current ￥160-￥170/box, and the merchant indicated that this is the normal price. Grapefruit is mostly used in the soft drink and catering industry. As the temperature gradually rises, the demand increases, so the sales are smooth.
As for Egyptian oranges, some merchants said that currently only a few big brands are selling well and their prices have increased recently, while the sales of other brands are not satisfactory. The price of Philippine pineapples is gradually rising, but merchants say that sales are slow.
Yunnan red peach
In terms of domestic seasonal fruits, lychees and Shine muscats have been gradually launched earlier, and some merchants said that the volume will increase soon, and they will become the next category to attract attention. The producing areas of lychees on sale include Hainan and Guangdong, and the price has dropped from more than￥40/kg to more than ￥20/kg. Due to the small volume, the sales are generally satisfactory. Other seasonal fruits on the market include Yunnan bayberry and small Yunnan red peaches.
