Fruit and Vegetables Committee contact groups begin their 2023 meetings

The different contact groups created within the framework of the Spanish-Franco-Italian-Portuguese Joint Committee will start their 2023 meetings on February 14 with the meeting of the strawberry group, which will be held in Huelva. The meetings of garlic, tomato, peach-nectarine, apple, and citrus groups will be held during the first half of the year.

Representatives of the strawberry sector organizations from France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, as well as government representatives from these countries, will participate in the strawberry contact group meeting to be held on Tuesday, February 14. The meeting will be hosted by Freshuelva, an association integrated into FEPEX.

The citrus group will meet in Murcia in March and the garlic group in Zamora in April.

The contact groups are made up of representatives of the sectors of the countries that make up the Joint Committee: France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, and the heads of their respective administrations. They analyze the campaigns and specific issues of each product, agreeing on joint actions that are then approved in the plenary session of the Joint Committee, which is scheduled for next June.

The Joint Committee has become a common framework and a forum for dialogue between the sectors of the countries that comprise it. It has strong institutional support from Spain and France, as reflected in the XXVII bilateral Summit between the two countries held on January 19, where the Ministers of Agriculture signed a joint declaration to strengthen agricultural cooperation, which included, among other points, their commitment and support for the fruit, vegetable, and wine mixed committees.
