North Island: Consistent rain has impacted harvesting and planting schedules. It is also causing vegetable shortages and quality issues. The Coromandel Peninsula, Gisborne, and the east coast of the North Island experienced heavy rainfall in early January. There were rainfall amounts of more than 200mm and flooding in some of these areas, particularly during ex-tropical cyclone Hale.
At this time of year the company usually had plenty of watermelon, corn, iceberg lettuce and salads. The weather did not destroy crops but simply delayed normal plant and harvest times.
