At the beginning of November, the first organic and untreated lemons from Sicilian producer PASAM Agrumi could be obtained through Fruchtagentur Altes Land. "As in other years, the first goods were still somewhat greenish due to the weather, which is why the start of the season was rather restrained. Since then, however, the goods have colored nicely and availability is also at the usual seasonal level. Quality is very high," says Thomas Heeren, managing director of Fruchtagentur Altes Land.

Due to the heat and the lack of rain, there is still a high proportion of smaller calibers at this point in time. Heeren: "However, I expect that from January onwards we will have sufficient large-caliber goods in stock and enough capacity to further expand sales. Furthermore, we are waiting for the release of Demeter goods. We hope that we will be able to offer Demeter lemons, starting in February."

Oranges from Sicily
According to Heeren, the market situation for Italian oranges is roughly similar. There is a normal supply situation, with a lower share of larger fruit right now. "We are sourcing mostly Navel and Washington Navel at the moment, then from January onwards usually blood oranges of the Moro and Tarocco varieties are available, 
followed by Valencia. Prices in the offal are slightly above last year's levels, yet they have not gone up enough to compensate for the sharp increase in production and logistics costs."

Fruchtagentur Altes Land has been working in close cooperation with PASAM Agrumi for many years. This year, some novelties could be added to the portfolio, Heeren continues. "This year, in addition to our lemons, we are also offering organic oranges and untreated oranges of any variety for the first time. We will be able to offer these in small quantities during our first season. Also new are our lemons with leaves, which are in great demand, particularly in the wholesale sector."
