Lebanese fruit and vegetable producers approach the Arab Gulf market

Traditionally less competitive than their North African peers when it comes to achieving economies of scale, Lebanese fresh fruit and vegetable producers have long focused on niche markets and high-end products. Today, they want to take full benefit of their competitive advantages and do more business in international markets.

This is the mission of a program of the Netherlands Development Cooperation, the Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) and Stecia International, who supports Lebanese producers in their quest for new international markets. And this is the purpose of the visit of several Lebanese companies Dubai and Abu Dhabi to meet importers and retailers and to visit the ADIFE (Abu Dhabi International Food Exhibition) from 6 to 8 December 2022.

Mr. Walid Gaddas, Managing Director of Stecia International, enumerates the advantages of exporting agriculture in Lebanon: "The country benefits from micro-climates very favorable to several high quality crops: red fruits, exotic fruits, citrus, vegetables ... this allows Lebanese producers to export fresh products throughout the year, especially when the market is empty from competition. Moreover, the geographical position of Lebanon allows it to deliver with less delay and at lower logistic cost to Europe and the Arab Gulf."

The delegation that will visit ADIFE will be composed of 12 producers of a wide range of products. Their main objective is to develop their sales by concluding agreements with large supermarket chains.

For Mr. Walid Gaddas, targeting the Gulf market is quite relevant and makes sense for Lebanese producers: "The Gulf market is a natural market for Lebanon because of its geographical and cultural proximity and the strong presence of the Lebanese diaspora."
