The Port Authority of Algeciras (APBA) and the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (Procomer) have renewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that both entities formalized in 2019.
The president of the APBA, Gerardo Landaluce, and the general director of Procomer, Pedro Beirute, have signed in Algeciras this agreement that allows continuing promoting the commercial relationship between Spain's most important port and the Central American country.
Landaluce emphasized that the renewal of this MOU consolidates Algeciras as a strategic port for the international trade of Costa Rican companies and as a facilitator to the opening of new markets and businesses in the south of Europe. In turn, the CEO of Procomer highlighted the role of Algeciras as a strategic partner for Costa Rican companies' exports to reach European markets.
The port of Algeciras receives 43% of Costa Rica's exports to Spain, an amount that rises to 80% in the case of certain products, such as pineapple.
MedCaribe Service
The ports of Algeciras and Moín are directly connected by the MedCaribe service, of the CMA-CGM and Marfret shipping companies, with a transit time of only 11 days.
