After several years of planning and construction, Früchte Feldbrach Ltd moved into its new warehouse and office premises in Taufkirchen, south of Munich, last month. Since its founding in 1997, the company has been supplying its customers six days a week with everything the fruit and vegetable world has to offer - plus a wide range of ready-cut and dairy products. Why did the wholesaler move out of the city after almost 25 years in the wholesale market? First and foremost, a lack of space, because further growth, additional product ranges and efficient operations were becoming increasingly difficult at the old location, they say.
Taufkirchen as the optimal location
The search for a new location was anything but easy, and an ideal site of an appropriate size was finally found in Taufkirchen. "Together with the property owner, we planned a warehouse with office space geared to our needs as long-term tenants. With the new and larger storage facilities, we can now also implement the wishes of many of our customers and ourselves, working on a further systematic expansion of the fresh produce product," says Moritz Kieslinger, who has been involved with the new building from the beginning.
The location also has excellent logistical links to the A995 motorway at the Munich South intersection. From the suppliers' point of view, this is an important step, because the city traffic can thus be bypassed. Whether regional or arriving from abroad, the changeover has worked out excellently.
State-of-the-art technology
The new
warehouses are not only larger, but much more modern and sustainable as well. It starts with refrigeration; the heart of the warehouse. Away from old and not optimally insulated cold storage cells, to modern and energy-efficient warehouses. "The new technology not only allows us to control the cooling more efficiently and in line with demand, it is also much more sustainable and energy-saving. This meets our aspirations for sustainable business and at the same time the quality of the goods. In addition, additions were made for a solar system on the company roof. The company can in turn use the electricity generated for its own consumption. "This reduces costs and further protects the environment," says Kieslinger.
Furthermore, most of the industrial trucks were renewed and the individual warehouses were equipped with airlocks and high-speed doors. 15 modern delivery ramps, equipped with insulated loadhouses that protect the goods from temperature fluctuations, are available to suppliers. A large buffer warehouse also allows goods to be received in stock and the consignment stores to be replenished quickly and in line with demand.

Closer to the customer
"The more than 3,000 square meters of refrigerated space and the modern offices have been designed to ensure optimal processing, from goods receipt and warehousing to order picking and delivery. Supported by the digitalization of processes that has been driven forward in recent years, another major step has been taken in the direction of efficiency," continues Kieslinger. The course has been set, also for the expansion of the product range. In addition to raw products, Feldbrach offers its customers a wide range of ready-to-eat delicatessen salads, sliced products, spreads, antipasti, juices, and dairy products. 375 sqm of delicatessen, convenience and dairy warehouses enable the company to act flexibly and at short notice.
In the core business, fresh fruit and vegetables, customers benefit from long-standing and first-class partnerships with quality suppliers at home and abroad. Regionality is a priority here, with a large proportion of producers and manufacturers supplying from the neighboring region. Since 2019, Früchte Feldbrach has also been certified for "Geprüfte Qualität Bayern" (GQB). In addition to conventional products, the company also carries organic goods (organic certification 2007), and the trend is increasing, according to the company.
"The possibilities of the new warehouses, bringing us even closer to the customer. Moreover, in addition to fresh fruit and vegetables, he or she will feel the positivity. Joy, fairness, trust and service will be apparent, even in these challenging times for us all. This applies to our more than 100 employees as well as to our nearly 2,000 customers. From the small corner café to the top-class restaurant. From beer gardens to large kitchens. As part of the vegetable ring, with our own production, we have direct access to fresh fruit and vegetables. In addition, we are a regional supply partner of CF Gastro in Bavaria and are therefore also well positioned nationally. We are pleased to be able to implement the wishes of our customers even better from the new location," say owners Jenny Feldbrach and Christian Kieslinger.
