Upper Austrian vegetable and fruit marketer efko is building a new plant in Guntramsdorf (district of Mödling). Ready-made salads will be produced there, among other things. Efko is investing €22 million in the new location. The efko headquarters is located in Eferding, Upper Austria. In Guntramsdorf, the company is now building a plant owned by its wholly-owned subsidiary Vitana, which has its headquarters in Vienna. Vitana produces fresh salad and vegetable convenience products for the food retail and catering wholesalers.

"The new plant is located at a central logistics point with optimal connection to the transport network. In combination with our flexible logistics, this enables us to supply the entire Austrian market on a daily basis," efko CEO Klaus Hraby told industry magazine Cash.

Commissioning is scheduled for 2021
The construction of the new Vitana plant is scheduled for spring 2020, the company said in a Friday press release. In 2021, the site is to become operational. Vitana processes around 12,600 tonnes of lettuce and fresh vegetables every year. According to the company's website, Vienna is said to be able to provide fresh food to all of Austria. 108 employees produce around 360 items for the food retail and catering wholesalers. In 2018 the company achieved a turnover of around €21 million.
