Aldi announces two-year deal with Carlow-based mushroom growers

Aldi Ireland has agreed to a new two-year deal with Carlow-based Codd Mushrooms that will see the business provide €9 million worth of mushrooms to Aldi stores.

Under the new contract, Codd Mushrooms will supply Aldi’s 133 Irish stores with 13.3 million packs of mushrooms, representing a volume growth of 600% between Aldi and the family-run business.

Uncertain times
“The certainty provided by our partnership with Aldi has helped us in not only growing our business, but in developing a world-class production facility here in Tullow,” said Leslie Codd, Managing Director of Codd Mushrooms.

“This year alone we have been able to employ an additional ten new full-time members of staff, bringing the number on our team to 250. We now plan to continue our growth into 2020 – secure in the knowledge that we have Aldi’s support. The new deal with Aldi strengthens our position in the Irish market at a time when the mushroom industry is dealing with uncertainty and challenges in the face of Brexit.”
