Representatives of CIV and Salvi Vivai confirmed that the process of registration of the most suitable varieties for Russia has begun. It is expected that, after testing at different sites in different regions of Russia, the varieties will be certified for cultivation by 2020.
CIV is a joint venture of three large Italian nurseries (Vivai Mazzoni, Salvi Vivai and Tagliani Vivai), engaged in the breeding of new varieties and the production of certified plants.
The strawberry varieties Aprica, Sibilla, Laetitia, Quicky and Clery offered to Russia by the CIV are suitable for growing in a relatively cold climate with long winters. Successful development of these plants requires at least 500 hours with a sub-zero temperature per year. The five varieties chosen for registration in Russia allow for a long harvest period:
Quicky - fruit bearing very early
Clery - fruit bearing early, ripens about 5 days after Quicky
Apric - average ripening period, begins to bear fruit 4 days after Clery
Sibilla – ripening medium to late, the beginning of harvesting - 8 days after Clery Laetitia - late variety, the harvest begins 4 days later
Murano and Vivara are varieties suitable for cultivation in tunnels and greenhouses.
