Kyrgyzstan is aiming to develop deeper processing of agricultural products and seeks to exchange experience with Hungary, according to Temir Sariev, President of the Kyrgyz Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The announcement was made during the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Forum on Food Industry Development.
In 2024, Kyrgyzstan exported over $117 million in vegetables and $61 million in fruits. However, Sariev noted that these figures remain below the country's potential, as much of the production is still sold in its raw form. Only 30–35% of agricultural output undergoes processing, while losses during harvesting, transport, and storage can reach up to 30%.
Hungary, with its long history of advanced agro-processing and access to large markets, is seen as a model partner. Hungarian funds have expressed interest in participating in joint projects, including financing for modern processing equipment.
Kyrgyzstan also plans to expand exports to the European Union under the GSP+ scheme, which allows duty-free access for over 6,000 product categories, provided European quality and safety standards are met.
