The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has outlined the expansion of over 300 hectares of new peach and plum orchards in Georgia under the "Plant the Future" initiative. The total financial undertaking for these projects has surpassed 4.3 million GEL, with co-financing of 1.7 million GEL from the Rural Development Agency.
Minister Davit Songulashvili engaged with Nikoloz Getiashvili, a program beneficiary, during a visit to Gurjaani village. Getiashvili's diverse orchard has been developed with agency support. The Ministry stated, "The farmer received approximately 20,000 GEL in co-financing under the 'Plant the Future' program, alongside more than 240,000 GEL in preferential agrocredit." His 28-hectare orchard produces peach, plum, apricot, and cherry plum, aiming for a 250-ton fruit yield this season.
Discussions during the minister's visit centered on production challenges. It was observed that state-backed efforts in orchard creation and infrastructure advancement continue to impact agricultural output and community income levels.
The "Plant the Future" program maintains its influence on expanding Georgia's fruit-growing industry and advancing rural development objectives.
