The Philippine durian has entered the Egyptian market, as reported by the Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Plant Industry.
"This development, confirmed on May 18, 2025, marks the successful conclusion of nearly two years of technical negotiations, pest risk assessments, and regulatory cooperation between the Philippines and Egypt," stated the bureau on social media.
This access showcases the Philippines' compliance with regulatory standards and increasing international confidence in its plant health systems. Initiated in June 2023, the Philippines declared its export intentions for fresh durian to Egypt.
Collaborative efforts with Egypt's Central Administration for Plant Quarantine addressed issues related to pest monitoring and phytosanitary safeguards. The bureau also noted the global demand for Philippine durian, citing the export of 14,156.87 metric tons in 2024—a rise of 199.23% from 2023.
