India has announced an immediate ban on imports of goods originating from or transiting via Pakistan. This decision follows escalating tensions after a deadly attack on tourists in the disputed Kashmir region. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade declared, "Direct or indirect Import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether or not freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall be prohibited with immediate effect, until further orders." The restriction is cited as being in the interest of national security and public policy.
In parallel, Pakistan's military reported a successful training launch of the Abdali Weapon System, a surface-to-surface missile with a range of 450 kilometers. The launch aimed to ensure operational readiness and validate technical parameters.
Both nations have exchanged gunfire for nine nights along the Line of Control, the de facto border. Following the Kashmir attack, New Delhi and Islamabad closed the Wagah Attari border, the only trade route between them. India has also suspended the Indus Water Treaty, which manages the water sharing of the Indus basin.
Pakistan has warned that India's suspension of the treaty could be viewed as an act of war. In response to India's actions, Pakistan halted border trade, closed its airspace to Indian flights, and expelled Indian diplomats. The Kashmir region remains tense as the threat of military action persists.
