Chennai ports close in response to the approaching Cyclone Michaung

On December 4, all ports in the Chennai region of India ceased operations as a precautionary measure in response to the approaching Cyclone Michaung. The cyclone is forecast to make landfall on the Chennai coastline today. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that the cyclone was likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm.

Already, heavy rains and flooding caused by the impact of the cyclonic storm, categorized as severe, disrupted the port city, affecting all transportation links. Vessel berthing and cargo movements at Chennai, Kattupalli, and Ennore were suspended, with port gates remaining closed until further notice.
