Malaysia sees drop in demand for Musang King durian due to black spots

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has addressed the occurrence of black spots on the famous Musang King durian, claiming this is possibly due to the El Nino phenomenon. The Minister said although there was no specific study on the impact of the phenomenon, the black spots had resulted in the drop of prices of the fruit.

He also addressed the issue of food security: “Food security has become a main agenda globally, not only in Malaysia. And inflation happens all over the world. For instance in the United Kingdom, the inflation has reached about 11%.“
