June in Yuanjiang is the season for mangoes and the Ao mangoes grown in Yuanjiang County, Yuxi City, are ripe for harvesting.
"This year, the output of mangoes is not much, but the price is much higher than in previous years. The bagged mango is 10 RMB/kg, and the unbagged mango is 8 RMB/kg. In previous years, it was between 4 and 5 RMB/kg. The market price has nearly doubled. These mangoes are mainly sent to Shandong, Beijing, Xinjiang and other places. At present, the first batch of mangoes has been on the market at around 15 tons." said a local agent.
It is reported that there are more than 140 varieties of mangoes planted in Yuanjiang County. Ao mangoes are one of the main varieties grown locally, and it is also one of the finest mango varieties that focus on developing and planting.
In recent years, Lijiang Sub-district has actively developed high-quality mango planting, unified training techniques and carried out pesticide residue testing to increase villagers’ income. The local mangoes use the brand effect to help farmers expand sales channels, increase sales, and raise the selling price of mangoes.
By 2022, the total mango planting area in the local growing group reaches more than 74.2hectares, with a total output of more than 2,500 tons. As of the first half of 2022, the mango planting area in Yuanjiang County has reached over 15,666 hectares.
