Uttar Pradesh mangoes fail to curb high prices

Daily consumption of mangoes in Indore is estimated at over 100 ton including all varieties, according to mango traders. New season Dasheri and Langra varieties of mangoes have started arriving in the local markets, improving daily supplies of mangoes to around 80 tons.

One mango trader in the Choithram market said: “Dasheri and Langra varieties of mangoes have started coming to Indore from Uttar Pradesh. Daily supplies have increased but in comparison to last year arrivals are less due to lower production. Mango prices are also higher this season.”

According to mango traders from Choithram market, mangoes in the retail market are priced at Rs80 to Rs150 per kg depending upon the variety and quality. These prices are about 20 per cent higher than the last season. The early varieties of mango that came to Indore markets are Ratnagiri Hapus, Badam and Sinduri followed by Dasheri and Langra.

With new season supplies from Uttar Pradesh, arrivals of Ratnagiri Hapus and Sinduri have dropped, said traders. Mango traders expect daily supplies of mangoes to increase further in coming weeks though prices are expected on a higher side this season.
