Wuhan, China:

Strawberries hit the market in large numbers, prices drop by nearly half

After the beginning of spring, the temperature in Wuhan slowly rose, and a large number of local strawberries in Wuhan went on the market. The good quality strawberries dropped to about 60 RMB/kg, and the lowest price was only 20-30 RMB/kg, which was nearly half of the price before the Spring Festival.

Picked strawberries

Some sellers said that the spring strawberries are large and the market volume is currently large. Because of different varieties, the price ranges from 27 to 56 RMB/kg. Ordinary strawberries are generally local, slightly smaller, and authentic taste. Because the shipping cost is low, the price is also low.

Expensive strawberries generally come from other places, such as light-colored strawberries and creamy strawberries. Because the varieties are rare and the transportation cost is high, the price is naturally high. If for local household consumption, it is very cost-effective to buy local strawberries.

According to Tao Guomin, a grower, he has contracted more than 2.6 hectares of greenhouses to grow strawberries in winter and spring, and rapeseed in summer and autumn. At present, spring strawberries are on the market, and there are tourists who come to pick on the spot and traders who come to buy. The wholesale price is 16-20 RMB/kg, and the picking price is 60 RMB/kg.

"Strawberry planting still requires technical requirements, and the benefits can be high if you plant them well. Wuhan has a large market, and we are not far from the main urban area. In all aspects, the overall benefits are good."

Greenhouse strawberries are ripening

According to a fruit and vegetable expert from the Wuhan Modern Agricultural Education Center, the temperature in early spring is lower, and there are fewer pests and diseases. Basically, strawberries can grow without spraying chemicals. It is understood that this spring, the strawberry planting area in Wuhan is nearly 2,666 hectares, mainly concentrated in new urban areas. In the later period, as the temperature rises, many greenhouse spring strawberries enter the ripening stage by stages, the output continues to increase, and the price still has room to fall.
