Wanning city in Hainan recently started the pineapple harvest season. The pineapples are now entering the Chinese market in large volumes. Hainan supplies markets throughout China with fresh pineapples.
Farmers in Longgun town in Wanning are currently busy harvesting their pineapples. The pineapples are simply packaged in boxes, purchased by visiting traders, and then loaded onto trucks. The trucks distribute pineapples across the entire country. Some farmers say that the sales conditions of pineapples are great this year. Consumer demand is much greater than market supply. Visiting traders are competing to purchase pineapples.
Wanning city is located in the southeast of Hainan Island. The region is great for pineapple plantation. The overall surface area devoted to pineapple plantation in the region is around 2,400 hectares. The annual production volume is around 46,000 tons. The pineapples are produced through a combination of "village party + company + cooperation."
The three work together to efficiently use natural resources, develop new pineapple varieties, expand the overall surface area devoted to pineapple plantation, improve the competitive market position, and raise the income of local farmers. Longgun town supplies close to 4,000 tons of pineapples to Shaanxi, Hubei, and Jiangsu. The purchase price in production areas was 1 yuan [0.15 USD] per 0.5 kg around this time last year, but has now increased to 2.7 yuan [0.42 USD] per 0.5 kg.
The overall surface area devoted to pineapple plantation in Hainan is now around 16,667 hectares. The annual production volume is expected to exceed 500,000 ton.
