India: Lack of export market thwarts kiwi growers in Arunachal Pradesh

The farmers of West Kameng district of Western Arunachal, which tops the kiwi production in the region, are craving for export market to sell their fruit products. Lack of an effective export market causes huge losses to the progressive farmers.

The State’s Horticulture Department report reveals that the West Kameng district has produced about 4,284 tons of kiwis, 45 percent of the state’s total fruit production this year.  However, the farmers are disappointed that the Department did not supply any training on packaging nor developed a market network to export their produce.

Only recently, the Horticulture Department has taken steps to state training West Kameng farmers on ‘the Packaging of Kiwis’. Nenow.in reported that the first phase of this training, which began at Dirang on Monday, is organized by Trade & Commerce department in association with a local NGO.
