Germany: Organic vegetables make up 7% of total vegetable crops
In 2014, agricultural businesses were cultivating an area of 115,200 hectares with open air vegetables in Germany. Around 9% of this area was ecologically managed (10,500 hectares). The largest part of this acreage was used by organic farms to grow carrots (1,700 hectares) and asparagus (1,300 hectares).
The yield of ecologically grown vegetables was around 259,000 tonnes in 2014, accounting for 7% of the total of vegetables harvested. The amount of organic carrots was highest, at around 82,500 tonnes, followed by organic white cabbages (25,900 tons).
