25.4% drop in Moroccan tomato sales to the EU

Morocco has reduced its sales of tomatoes to the European Union (EU) by 25.4 percent in weeks 44 and 45, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Prices and Markets Observatory of the Government of Andalusia.

The total quota of tomatoes to be exported by Morocco to the European Union, during the 2017/2018 campaign is 285 million kilos, with the quota period starting on 1 October and ending on 20 April. The volume exported by Morocco in weeks 44 and 45 has reached 9 million kilos.

Cucumber
The period for the export of Moroccan cucumbers to the EU begins on 1 November and lasts until 31 May. The total quota for the 2017/18 campaign amounts to 16.8 million kilos; the same figure as in the previous campaign.

In the first two weeks, a total of 249,000 kilos have been shipped to the EU.

Courgette
The period for the export of Moroccan courgettes begins on 1 October and lasts until 20 April. The total quota for the 2017/18 campaign amounts to 56 million kilos; the same figure as in the previous campaign.

In weeks 44 and 45, 280,000 kilos of Moroccan courgettes have entered the EU at a price of 1.201 Euro/kg; less than half the amount registered in the same period of the 2016/17 season.

The export of Moroccan courgettes under quota to the EU has dropped notably since the beginning of the campaign. In the previous period, Morocco suffered the ravages of the New Delhi virus and at this time of the campaign the Moroccan production does not have an impact on Spanish exports.
