Ecuador: Agrocalidad has completed the identification of obsolete pesticides

The Obsolete Pesticide Inventory Project, which was executed by AGROCALIDAD together with Apcsa and Innovagro's Crop Protection and Animal Health Industry, identified more than 112 tons of obsolete pesticides in companies and warehouses for the sale of pesticides.

This process began in 2016 and ended on November 8 of this year. The project inventoried 2,181 warehouses and 240 companies and identified the amount of obsolete pesticides each of them possessed.

The executive director of AGROCALIDAD, Fernando Cabezas, highlighted that Ecuador was one of the few countries in the region to carry out this process which is of great importance for public and environmental health.

The institution attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock coordinated the project, trained, and authorized the consulting firm in technical specifications to carry out the inventory. Meanwhile, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) provided technical support with the implementation of the methodology for this process.

Apcsa and Innovagro hired the ADVANCE Consultores company to collect inventory information in the country's agricultural input warehouses, and provided the necessary safety equipment to the consultant and to the officials who were responsible for the inventory in pesticide companies.

This information will be delivered to the Ministry of the Environment for its proper management, which will be financed by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF).
