"Compared to last year's total kiwi production of 480,000 tons, this year's Italian kiwi production is down due to a severe frost during the blossoming time in April," according to Mr. Kevin Au Yeung, Asian Market Director of RKG Asia Ltd.

"Every year in October, we start the export of Italian golden and green kiwis to Asia. The export period for golden kiwis lasts for five weeks, and that of green kiwis is quite a bit longer, until February or March of the next year. Overall, the European kiwi production is rather small. The export quantity and price for Asia are determined by the market demand of other European countries and the fixed prices. Therefore, it is now rather early to make a final conclusion. However, taking into account the large demand from China and the strong Italian supply capacity, we are rather optimistic about the export in the future."

"Apart from the well-known breed Soreli, we are also testing the waters by exporting small quantities of Dori kiwis to China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Dori is a new golden kiwi breed that is oval, sweet and juicy, and was developed independently ten years ago in Italy. They are delicious, and their sugar content ranges around 16-18°, and 20° at most. Furthermore, the shelf life of Dori is longer than that of Soreli, so they are very suitable for the Chinese demand. We are the first European company to export Dori kiwis to Asia. We are very optimistic about the prospects of the development of Dori on the Chinese and Asian market."

"Currently, we are selling our excellent Italian kiwis under our own brand "RK Growers" through large-scale supermarkets and distributors in first and second tier cities in China, like Shanghai and Guangzhou.
