"We have already filed the anti-dumping lawsuit, we hope to find out this week if the government will take precautionary measures or if they will reject the measures we are espousing."
According to the president of Fedepapa, German Palacio, it is urgent that the control agencies and the Government intervene, as it is illogical to make imports when the dollar costs more than 3 thousand pesos.
"What we are asking is that no more imported potatoes enter the country, we have enough and, if the potatoes that enter the country because of the FTA enter in the same conditions, it will put the National industry at risk," he stated.
According to the leader, currently the potato producers guild is on high alert due to the weather, intermediation, high production costs and possible irregular imports that have them very concerned.
Palacio said that potato imports were the consequence of the Free Trade Agreements and that things would be very difficult in the second half of the year, which could jeopardize the highland harvests in Cundinamarca and Boyaca, as the Brazilian government has imposed anti-dumping measures against European Union countries.
