Peru exported 135.5% more garlic in the first quarter

According to the Exporters Association (ADEX), in the first quarter of this year, Peruvian garlic exports amounted to US $8,874,000, i.e. 135.5% more than in the same period last year.

Between January and March 2017, Peru exported garlic to 12 markets. The main destination market was the United States, which purchased $4,873,000, i.e. 56.7% of the total. It was followed by Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Australia, among others.

The main garlic exporting companies were Olam Agro Peru SAC, Coproimpex SAC, Comercial Liborio EIRL, White Lion Foods SAC, Agro Industrias R & B Group SAC, and QVS International SAC-

The exporter guild stressed that producers and entrepreneurs were still looking for more markets to maintain this positive trend.

APAS 2017
A few days ago, the APAS Show 2017 was held in Brazil, with the participation of Adex partner companies including White Lion Foods, Agromel, Danper, and Andes Alimentos

The Peruvian mission was organized and led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri), Promperu, and OCEX Brazil of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur). Thanks to the support of Minagri, the Association of Producers of Oyoccocha, Acobamba, and of Tacna, as well as the Agroindustrial Association of SAMA-AAOS traveled from Huancavelica.

The Super-Foods brand was also launched at the fair. The brand seeks to consolidate the growth trend of products such as quinoa, maca, kiwicha, caƱihua, olives, garlic, onion, canned vegetables, cranberry, fresh asparagus, fishery and aquaculture products.

According to OCEX Brazil, during the fair exporters had more than 338 commercial contacts, and the results of these contacts will be noticeable in the medium term. The most demanded products were garlic, green and black olives, quinoa, oregano, canned vegetables, blueberries, grapes, and fresh asparagus, among others.

Antonio Castillo, the Peruvian commercial adviser in Brazil, said that, thanks to the negotiations carried out by Mincetur, Senasa and Sanipes, the sanitary authority of the Brazil had authorized the importation of fresh blueberries, which are expected to generate some US $ 3 million.
