After more than 20 years of having a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on goods and services, the trade relationship between Mexico and the United States has no place for the imposition of new tariffs.
"There will be no imposition of tariffs. Mexico has made important progress in all sectors in the 20 years that it has had a free trade agreement with the United States. We have achieved unprecedented export levels in fruits, vegetables, avocados, and agroindustrial products, such as beer, and others. This means we have a very strong relationship with the US. The idea is to continue strengthening it, which means we are not thinking about reinstating tariffs," said Ildefonso Guajardo, Secretary of Economy.
Guajardo Villarreal said he was not nervous about the arrival of Donald Trump to the presidency of the US government and said that the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) lower expectations for Mexico, from 1.7 this year and 2% next year, were not exclusive of this country.
